In Ephesians 4:22-24, Paul says, “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires to be made new in the attitude of your minds, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” When we offer our bodies as living sacrifices, we are not able to do things that would dishonor God, like getting tattoos.ħ. Romans 12:1 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own you were bought at a price. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.” In other words, we should not get tattoos or any other type of body modification that goes against God’s will.Ĥ. In Romans 12, Paul says, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. In the New Testament, tattoos are still seen as a form of self-mutilation. I am the Lord.” God is telling his people that they should not mutilate their bodies as the Gentiles do.ģ. In Leviticus 19:28, God says, “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. For example, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, he commanded them to tattoo a blue cord on their wrists to show that they were part of God’s people (Exodus 14).Ģ. In the Old Testament, tattoos were often used to identify people as criminals or slaves.
